The project, which is a joint venture between the Eda Ranu Water and the National Capital District Commission (NCDC), aims to provide affordable rental housing units to low-income households in Port Moresby.
The Eda Ranu Affordable Rental Housing Scheme has helped to alleviate the housing deficit in Port Moresby. The project has constructed over 400 units equipped with basic amenities like water, electricity, and security. The project's success demonstrates the effectiveness of PPPs in addressing PNG's rental housing challenge.
The rental housing crisis in PNG is multifaceted and will require a comprehensive approach to address fully. The government must create an enabling environment that encourages private investment in affordable rental housing while continuing to provide support to institutions like the NHC. Furthermore, stakeholders must promote PPPs engagement at all levels, from planning to implementation, to ensure that the approach is sustainable, effective, and inclusive.
In conclusion, Papua New Guinea's rental housing crisis is a significant challenge that requires urgent and sustainable solutions. The government and private sector must work together to create a conducive environment for affordable rental housing development.
