Aerobics is a form of physical exercise that combines rhythmic aerobic exercise with stretching and strength training routines, with the aim of improving all aspects of fitness (flexibility, muscle strength and cardio-vascular fitness). It is usually performed in music and can be practiced in a group setting led by an instructor (fitness professional), although it can be performed solo and without musical support. With the aim of preventing illness and promoting physical fitness, practitioners perform a variety of daily routines, including a variety of dance-style exercises. Formal aerobics classes are divided into different levels of intensity and complexity and consist of five components: warm-up , cardiovascular conditioning, muscle strength and conditioning, cool-down and stretching and flexibility. Aerobics classes may allow participants to choose their level of participation according to their fitness level. Each class is designed for a certain level of experience and is taught by a certified instructor with a specific area of their specific class.
Aerobic gymnastics, commonly known as sport aerobics and competitive aerobics consists of complex choreography, rhythmic and acrobatic gymnastics that can be combined with aerobics elements. Performance is divided by age, gender, and group (individual, mixed pairs and triad) and is determined by the following: Dynamic and Static Strength, Jumps and Leaps, Kicks, Balance and Flexibility. Ten exercises are mandatory: four high leg kicks and patterns in a row. A maximum of ten items are allowed from the following families: push-ups, support and balance, kicks and splits, jumps and leaps. Tumbling elements such as hand springs, handstands, back flips and aerial somersault are prohibited. Scoring is done by judging the quality of artwork, creativity, execution and routines. Sport Aerobics has state, national and international competitions, but it is not an Olympic sport.
As with other types of exercise, step aerobics can help burn calories and fat. The number of calories burned depends on the speed of movement, the height of the steps, the length of the exercise, and the height and weight of the individuals.
