The James Bond series is focused on a fictional British Secret Service agent, which was created in 1953 by writer Ian Fleming who featured him in twelve novels and two short-story collections. Since the death of Fleming in 1964, eight other authors have written authorized Bond novels or novelizations: John Gardner, Kingsley Amis, Christopher Wood, Jeffery Deaver, Raymond Benson, Sebastian Faulks, William Boyd and Anthony Horowitz. The latest novel, published in May 2018, is Forever and a Day by Anthony Horowitz. In addition to that, Charlie Higson wrote a series on a young James Bond and Kate Westbrook wrote three novels that were based on the diaries of a recurring series character, Moneypenny. The character has also been adapted for television, comic strip, radio, video games and films. The films are the longest consistently running film series of all time which have grossed over $7.040 billion in total which has thereby made it the sixth-highest-grossing film series to date, which started in 1962 with Dr. No, starring Sean Connery as Bond. There have been twenty-four films in the Eon Productions series, as of 2020. The most recent Bond film, Spectre, launched in 2015, stars Daniel Craig in his fourth portrayal of Bond. Daniel Craig is the sixth actor to play the role of Bond in the Eon series.
