A newspaper is a piece of paper containing news and other segments, generally written by news reports, authors or journalists. It is a periodical containing written information related to the current events happening around the region, sometimes might include national or international news as well, and is often typed in black and white ink with a grey or white background. Newspapers of certain types and publications are said to cover a wide variety of fields which include business, art, sports and politics and often include material such as weather forecasts, opinion columns, review of local services, birth notices, obituaries, crosswords, editorial cartoons and advice columns.
The production and distribution of news via newspaper is an act of business and not social service or a public sector unit. The generation of revenues by the newspaper printing firms is done by charging the consumers a mixture of subscription revenue, advertising revenue and newsstand sales. Often the name newspaper is referred to the journalist firms and organizations which are responsible for the production of newspapers. The tradition of printing a newspaper is to print it very cheaply and hence availing it on a minimal cost to the buyers. This activity is carried out by using low grade paper called newsprint.
