Aston Martin is an independent British manufacturer of luxury sports cars. It was established by Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin in 1913. It got identified with expensive grand touring cars during the 1950s and 1960s, with the fictional character James Bond following his use of a DB5 model in the 1964 film Goldfinger while it was being led by David Brown since 1947. Their sports cars are not just cars but are rather regarded as a British cultural icon. Aston Martin has held a Royal Warrant as purveyor of all sorts of cars to the Prince of Wales since 1982. It has over 150 car dealerships in over 50 countries across 6 continents which makes them a global automobile brand. In 2003 it received the Queen's Award for Enterprise for its remarkable contribution to the international trade. The company's headquarters and main production sites are in England, Gaydon, Warwickshire and one of Jaguar Land Rover's development centres on the site of a former RAF V Bomber air base. One of Aston Martin's recent cars was named after the 1950s Avro Vulcan bomber which is thereby named as "Vulcan". Aston Martin has also declared its plans to turn itself into a global luxury brand. It is, thus, increasingly branching out into projects which include manufacturing and marketing of bicycles, speed boats, clothing, real estate development along with submarines and aircraft that are mostly on a licensing basis.
