An Axe is a tool which has been used from a very long time to cut, split and shape wood, as a weapon, to harvest timber or as a heraldic or ceremonial symbol. It consists of an axe head with handle or helve, this is the basic part over which transformation of an axe take place to make one look different from the other. Not just by look but they can also be modified for different uses keeping the basic composition and structure as it is. The stone-age axe was used before the modern-day axe was designed, for about 1.5 years without a handle. It was later that it was modified and fixed with a wooden handle. The very beginning to the use of axes can be traced back to axes whose head was made of stone and having a wooden handle attached to it as per uses. The iron, copper and bronze axes were developed later according to the advancement in technology.
An axe is a type of wedge, or dual inclined plane and hence could be considered as a form of a simple machine, reducing the effort made by a wood chopper. Due to the pressure concentrations on the sharp edges of the blade it is able to chop the wood into two parts efficiently.
