Baseball is a game played between two opposing teams, using a bat and a ball, who take turns batting and fielding. The game proceeds when a player on the fielding team, or the so called pitcher, throws a ball towards a player on the batting team who tries to hit it with a bat. The objective of the batting team is to hit the ball into the field of play in order to allow its players to run the bases, having them advance in the counter-clockwise direction around four bases in order to score what are called "runs". The objective of the fielding team, on the other hand, is to prevent batters from becoming runners, and to prevent their advances around the bases, thereby preventing them from scoring runs. A run is scored when a runner properly advances around the bases in a particular order and touches home plate, which is the place where the player started as a batter. The winning team is the one that scores the most runs by the end of the game. The evolution of baseball was formed on the criteria of older bat and ball games that were already being played in England by the mid-18th century.
