An ambulance is a vehicle which is equipped with medical facilities and is used for transporting people, patients in general from the place of accident (or any place from where the patient might be needed to be taken to any medical institute) to any medical institute, like hospitals. In some cases, out of hospitals medical care is also provided to the patients, meanwhile they are getting transported. Ambulances can be used in the case of medical emergencies by approaching or dialing the contact numbers associated with emergency medical services. Since they carry patients, which also might be in critical situations and might need urgent treatment, ambulances are generally equipped with sirens and flashlights. This helps to let the mob and traffic know an ambulance is behind them so that they can clear the path for it easily and effectively.

 Ambulances can also rapidly transport paramedics and other first responders to the scenario, equipment required for administering emergency care and carrying patients to hospitals or other definitive care. The design of most of the ambulances is similar with that of pick up trucks or vans. Even though this is not a definite requirement for the vehicle to be defined as an ambulance. Any vehicle that is able to transport a patient to medical care can be termed as an ambulance, such as bikes, cars, etc.
