Amination is a technique used to manipulate stationary pictures to appear as moving images. Pictures were used to be drawn or painted by hand on transparent celluloid sheets to be exhibited on film or photographed in the ancient traditional times. Whereas in the modern-day most of the animations are generated by Computer Generated Imagery (CGI). The animations generated with the help of a computer could be very detailed 3D animations, whereas 2D computer animation could be used for other stylistic purposes, faster real time renderings or low bandwidth. Other common animation techniques apply a stop motion method to two and three dimensional objects like paper cutouts, clay figures or puppets.
Generally the effect of animation can be created by a fast and continuous succession of sequential images that hardly differ from one another. The illusion, as in picture motion in general, is based on beta movement and phi phenomenon, but still the exact reason for so is uncertain. The phenakistoscope, flip book, zoetrope, film and praxinoscope are examples of the Analog mechanical animation media which relies upon the rapid display of sequential images. Video and even television are some of the popular examples of electronic animation media that were originally analog and now are operated digitally.
