Kartikeya also known as Skanda, Murugan, Subrahmanya and Kumara, is the Hindu God of war. He is said to be the son of Shiva and Parvati, the brother of Ganesha. The story of the like of Kartikeya has many versions in Hinduism. He is one of the most important deities around South Asia, since Ancient times. Kartikeya is particularly predominantly worshipped and popular in Sri Lanka, South India, Malaysia and Singapore as Murugan. He is an ancient God, going back to the Vedic Era. He was even found with the Hindu God Agni from the first century CE and earlier, suggests the archeological evidence from that period, signifying the importance of Kartikeya in early Hinduism. Also it is to note that his scriptures could be found in many medieval temples all over India, such as the Elephanta Caves and Ellora Caves.
One can also point to the variation in the iconography of Kartikeya, typically represented as an ever youth man, riding or near a peacock, dressed with weapons sometimes near a rooster. Even though most of the icons show him with one head, some show him with six heads, giving a reflection of the legend surrounding his birth where six mothers symbolizing the six stars of Pleiades cluster take care of the newly born baby Kartikeya.
