Assassination Classroom is a Japanese comic science fiction manga series illustrated and written by Yusei Matsui. The series was based, published  and broadcasted on Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from July 2012 to March 2016 and is licensed in English by Viz Media. The series is based upon the daily lives of an extremely powerful octopus-like creature working as a junior high school home room teacher and his students are dedicated to the task of assassinating him in order to prevent Earth from being destroyed. These students are considered as “misfits” in their school and are thus taught in a separate building and the class he teaches is named 3-E.Twenty one tankobon volumes have been released in Japan, as of July 2016, with a circulation of over 20 million copies. On October to November 2013, an original single video animation adaptation by Brain's Base which was based on the series was screened at the Jump Super Anime Tour. This was followed by an anime television reframing by Lerche, which began airing on Fuji TV in January 2015 and the adaptation for release in North America has been licensed by Funimation. A live action film based on the same was released on March 21, 2015, the sequel of which, titled Assassination Classroom: Graduation, was released on March 25, 2016.
