Date Palm is the common name of Phoenix dactylifera, also commonly known as date. It is a flowering palm species in the palm family Arecaceae and is cultivated for its edible sweet fruit. Even though it's exact place of origin is uncertain because of its long cultivation, it probably originated from the Fertile Crescent region which straddles between Mesopotamia and Egypt. The species if widely cultivated across the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia and the Horn of Africa and is naturalized in many tropical and subtropical regions around the world. Phoenix dactylifera is the type species belonging to the genus Phoenix, which is said to contain 12-19 species of wild date palms, and is one of the major sources for commercial production.

The height of typical date palm trees is about 21-23 meters, growing by forming a clump with several stems from a single root system or singly. The fruit of the tree date or date palm are usually oval or oral-cylindrical with a diameter of 2.5 centimeters and having a length of 3 to 7 centimeter and ranging from bright red to bright yellow in colour, some of these patterns depend solely on the variety of the fruit.
