Guardians of the Galaxy is an American superhero film, released in 2014. The movie takes it origin from the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. Distributed by Walt Disney Studio Motion Pictures and produced by Marvel Studios, it is the tenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The screenplay of the film was written by Nicole Perlman, with the director of the film James Gunn, and features an ensemble cast including Zoe Saldana, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautisva, Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel as the titular Guardians, along with Michael Rooker, Lee Pace, Benicio del Toro, Karren Gillan, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close and Djimon Hounsou. In the movie, Peter Quill forms an uncomforting alliance with a unit of extraterrestrial criminals who are on the run after stealing a powerful artifact.
The working on the screenplay was begun by Perlman in 2009 and Kevin Feige, the producer of the film first publicly mentioned Guardians of the Galaxy as a potential film in 2010. The announcement by Marvel Studios was made in active development at the San Diego Comic Con International in July 2012. That September finally Gunn was hired to direct and write the film. Pratt was hired to play Peter Quill/ Star Lord in February 2013 and subsequently others were also hired.
