Lemon, also known as Citrus Limon is a fruit; a species of small evergreen tree in the flowering plant family Rutaceae. This species is generally native to South Asia, primarily North Eastern India. It's majorly its juice that is used for culinary and cleaning purposes. The pulp and rind can also be used for the purpose of cooking and baking. Lemon juice, i.e. the juice of the fruit of lemon tree, is 5% to 6% citric acid with a pH of around 2.2, this gives it a sour taste. The sour taste of lemon helps it find itself as a key ingredient in drinks and food such as lemonade and lemon meringue pie.
It is said that Lemons were first grown in Assam( a region in North East India), Northern Burma or China. Lemon is said to be a hybrid between bitter orange and citron, as found by a study a genomic study.Lemons came to Europe around the time of Ancient Rome, near Southern Italy. They were then later introduced to Persia, Iraq and Egypt. The first record of lemon in literature goes back to 10th-century. It was introduced in an Arabic disquisition on farming. In early Islamic gardens, it was also used as an ornamental plant.
