Aloe vera which is also known as a "wonder plant," is described as a short-stemmed shrub. Aloe is a genus that includes more than 500 species of flowering succulent plants. They mostly occur naturally in North Africa. Over the years, it has been a subject of scientific research because of its therauptic properties. It is produced as the raw material which is used for the generation of aloe gel which comes from the leaf. The leaves are succulent, erect and form a dense rosette. The very first time aloe vera was used in Ebers Papyrus which is stated in an Egyptian medical record in 16th century BC.
The other name of aloe vera was "the plant of immortality" in Egypt. It is widely used in China, Japan, India, Greece, Egypt and Mexico. As compared to other plants, the benefits of aloe vera are immense and research is still going on. It is very much in use in the field of cosmetology nowadays. It is widely used for flavoring in food, cosmetics such as face wash and scrub, food supplements due to its herbal properties. Though there are numerous indications regarding its use, controlled trials are needed to determine its real efficacy.
