A sandwich is a food item, generally made of bread, vegetables, sliced meat or cheese. These vegetables and slices are generally put between the slices of bread or in more general any dish wherein bread serves as a container or wrapped for another food type. The sandwich took its origin from a portable finger food in the Western world, through over time, its popularity spread worldwide. The National Sandwich Day is celebrated on the 3rd of November every year. Sandwiches are known as majorly either breakfast food or lunch food, taken to school, work or picnic to be eaten as a part of packed breakfast or lunch. The bread can be either plain or coated with condiments, such as mustard or mayonnaise, to enhance its texture or flavor. Even though sandwiches can be easily made at home, they are still a part of menu of various restaurants and can be served hot as well as cold.
The flavours of sandwiches doesn't seem to have any bound, they are available as both savoury sandwiches such as deli meat sandwiches and sweat sandwiches such as jelly and peanut butter sandwich. The inventor of sandwiches is considered to be John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, sandwich is supposedly named after him only.
