Street light also known as light pole or street lamp or lamp post or light standard or lamp standard. It is an object which is raised to reflect a source of light on the edge of dimly lit path or road. During the times when electric power distribution became ubiquitous in the developed countries in the 20th century, putting up lights in urban streets followed or sometimes led. Many of the lamps that have been put across happen to have light sensitive photocells that are put up to activate the lamp automatically when required, as there is little to no light during dawn, dusk or the onset of dark weather. The same function, during the older lighting systems could have been performed with the help of a solar dial. Many of the street light systems are being connected to underground instead of wiring them from one utility pole to another. The early use of lamps began in the Roman and Greek civilizations, where the primary purpose of having light around streets was to provide security, both to protect the wanderer from falling or tripping on the path over something or keeping the potential robbers at bay.
