A digital camera, also known as a digicam is nothing but a camera that captures photos in digital memory. Most cameras used and manufactured today are digital, while there are still some dedicated digital cameras, majorly the cameras are now being fitted into portable touchscreen computers, mobile phones, etc., which can use them for many other purposes such as for initiating video calling, a direct edit and sharing images via instant capture and upload. However, still these cannot replace the high definition, high end, dedicated digital cameras which are used by the professionals. The movie and digital cameras share an optical system, mostly using a lens with a variable diaphragm and shutter to admit the correct amount of light to the image. The image pickup device is similar to that in film but still differs as it is electronic rather than chemical. However unlike the film cameras, digicams can display photographs on screen immediately after being recorded, similarly it can also store and delete them from memory.
Many digital cameras also provide the feature of recording the audio while the video is shot, whereas some can crop and stitch images and perform immediate other elementary editing functions. Dawon Kahng and Mohamed M. Atalla invented MOSFET in 1959 at Bell Labs which in turn let to the origin of MOS which used as the basic principle of digital cameras.
