Mercedes-Benz is a division of Daimler AG and a German global automobile marque. Mercedes-Benz is known for luxury vehicles such as cars, vans, trucks, buses, coaches and ambulances. The company's headquarters is located in Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttemberg. Mercedes-Benz was the largest seller of premium vehicles in the world in 2018, having sold over 2.31 million passenger cars. Mercedes-Benz traces its origin to Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft's 1901 Mercedes and Karl Benz's 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen, which is believed to be the first gasoline-powered automobile. A Mercedes comes with the "the best or nothing" as that is what the brand's motto is. A European automobile entrepreneur, Emil Jellinek, who worked with DMG, created the trademark in 1902, naming the 1901 Mercedes 35 HP after his daughter Mercedes Jellinek. Jellinek was a marketing strategist and a businessman who promoted "horseless" Daimler automobiles among the highest circles of society in his adopted home, which was a meeting place for the "Haute Volee" of France and Europe, especially in winter, at that time. His customers included many well known personalities such as the Rothschild family. But Jellinek's plans progressed as in 1901 he was selling Mercedes cars in the New World including US billionaires Rockefeller, Astor, Morgan and Taylor. Jellinek drove under the pseudonym "Monsieur Mercedes", while trying to conceal his competitor's real name as was normal and very regularly done in those days, at a race in Nice in 1899. The race dawned as the hour of birth of the Mercedes-Benz brand.
