Nike, Inc. is an American multinational corporation which is engaged in the manufacturing, designing and worldwide marketing of footwear, apparel, accessories, equipment and services. The headquarters of the company is located near Beaverton, Oregon, in the Portland metropolitan area. It is the largest supplier of athletic shoes and apparel in the world and a major manufacturer of sports equipment. It employed more than 44,000 people worldwide, as of 2012. In 2014 the brand was valued at $19 billion alone thereby making itself the most valuable brand among sports businesses. the Nike brand was valued at $29.6 billion in 2017. It was ranked 89th in the 2018 Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by total revenue. The company was founded on 25th January, 1964 by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight, as Blue Ribbon Sports, and officially became Nike, Inc. on 30th May, 1971. Nike markets its products under its own brand, as well as Air Jordan, Air Max, Nike Golf, Nike Pro, Nike+, Nike Blazers, Air Force 1, Nike Dunk, Nike CR7 Nike Skateboarding, and subsidiaries that include Brand Jordan, Hurley International and Converse. Nike also owned Bauer Hockey which was later renamed as Nike Bauer from 1995 to 2008, and previously owned Cole Haan and Umbro. Apart from manufacturing sportswear and equipment, the company operates retail stores under the name of Niketown. Nike sponsors many sports teams and high-profile athletes around the world with its highly recognized trademarks of "Just Do It" as its motto and the Swoosh logo.
