Pen is an instrument used basically for writing or drawing. It has a refill containing ink. In ancient times, reed pens, quill pens and dip pens were used with a nib dipped in ink. Nowadays, ballpoint pen, gel pen, roller ball pen, marker pen and fountain pen are most commonly used. When the pen comes in contact with a surface (say a paper), it dispenses ink which usually dries immediately. In ball point pens, there is a small hard sphere attached at the nib usually made up of brass, steel or tungsten which dispenses ink. In case of fountain pens, the liquid ink is delivered through a nib. A marker pen has a porous tip of fibrous material. Technological pens are also available such as stylus pen, skin pen and digital pen.
Pilot's retractable ballpoint pen, popularly known as the Dr. Grip pen, is among the most popular ergonomic pens. Pens are used commonly in schools and offices. They are available in different price ranges. While the use and throw pens are available at prices starting from Rs.3, the Parker pens are available at around Rs 500. Currently, the most expensive pen in the world is Conway Stewart Westminster Teal pen priced at $1800.
