ARTISTIC ICONS

Wiring up navigation means arrows before anything else, and this section is built around them: direction and arrow sets in many weights, plus hand and gesture icons, geometric shapes, general symbols and signs, light marks and decorative graphic pieces. These are the structural pieces of an interface rather than pictures of things, which is why the same arrow turns up in a menu, a diagram and a slide. Each is a transparent PNG that keeps clean lines at small sizes, and with nothing behind it an arrow can sit on a photograph or a coloured panel without a block showing. Interface designers use them for navigation and controls, presenters for flow diagrams and process charts, and signage makers for wayfinding. Instruction sheets use the pointing hands.
