Doraemon is originally a manga series written and presented by Fujiko F. Fujio in Japan in 1969. Fujiko F. Fujio is a pen name of the two writers Hiroshi Fujimoto and Motoo Abiko. The Doraemon manga series was written in six different languages in December of 1969. It is one of the best and most selling manga in the world and has sold over 100 million copies. Doraemon was fairly exclusive to manga until 1979, but then a new tv studio, Shin-Ei animations not known as TV Asahi changed the game by producing the series of Doraemon. This series becomes immensely popular and made 1787 episodes before ending it in March 2005. A new Doraemon series started airing with new staff and improved graphics from April 2005. The Doraemon anime aired in India for the first time in 2005.
Doraemon gained immense popularity and won many accolades such as the Japan Cartoonist Association Awards for excellence in 1973, the first Shogakukan Manga Award for Children's manga in 1982. Foreign Ministry appointed Doraemon as the nation's first 'AnimeAmbassador' in March 2008, this action of Foreign Ministry confirms that Doraemon, a cartoon, has come to be considered a Japanese cultural icon. In India, the show has won Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards India two time in a row for Best Show For Kids in 2013 and 2015, it was also nominated in 2016 and 2017 for the same category of awards.
